A Gift Worth Giving

Wednesday we decided to celebrate James’ mom’s Thesis getting approved/accepted (meaning she just has to modify a few things, and she’ll have her Masters)!!! We gave her T-mas gift early (a chocolate fountain).  Then we had a fondue dinner, with the chocolate for dessert. It was great for her—a gift PLUS we had all the food ready & did all the work, so she got to enjoy the results. And we got to enjoy it with her.   The Before/During pictures (there wasn’t much to show afterwards) below show we really enjoyed it (as well as the meat & cheese fondue).  It was also probably the slowest meal in the Miles family history.

Even though Thanksgiving hasn’t happened yet, we HAD to have a Christmas tree, to put the gifts under! Today was the first part of tree decorating.  The kids were all very excited to see Uncle Teri put the lights up. Will kept saying over and over "Ohhh! Boo-ful yights!"  Then they got to hang up candy canes on the tree. We’ll do more tomorrow.

The Values We Teach Our Children

Overheard in the living room:

Uncle Karl: In Blackjack, the face cards are 10.  Will, you have 19. Do you want another card?

Will: YES!

Uncle Karl: Ok, now you have 23. Do you want another card?

Will: YES!

Uncle Karl: Now you have 34. Do you want another card?

We survived our 10 hour drive to PA. We ended up leaving much later then expected. Our attempted to leave seemed to be a comedy of errors (or a tragedy).  There were a variety of issues, ranging from Karl forgetting about the hour time difference between Chicago and Indiana (we’re on Eastern time now! We an hour ahead of you), so that was our first set back. We lost the van keys. Then the van wouldn’t start (we drained the battery from leaving the door open too long).  We FINALLY got off, but we had to stop at the office to pick up James’ ping pong paddle. Then we needed to go by the bank, stop by the store, get gas. It was 8 pm when we left (I’d hoped to be leaving between 5:30-6).  And our fun 10 hour drive began.

With 3 drivers the trip went very quickly (even with me needed to stop every two hours for a restroom break).  We got to the Farm about 6 am. Needless to say, Saturday was mostly a sleepless haze (though we all did get some nap time in). Today has gone much better.  Will has been very excited to see the roosters and chickens …he keeps wanting to go out and see them, and loves to copy the rooster’s crow. He enjoyed going for a walk around the farm this afternoon, but has had more fun playing in the sandbox.  He and his cousin had fun playing in the creek this afternoon as well (what’s a little mud, right?).  We had a bon fire tonight and Will got to eat his first roasted marsh mellow (I felt a little bad he’s never had one before!).  He declared it "Yummy!"  The kids got to have their time to eat marsh mellows and then went on a hay ride (being pulled by the lawn tractor).  The adults had smores later, after they were in bed.

Tomorrow we’re going to chop down a Christmas tree, and decorate it. We’re celebrating Christmas and Thanskgiving (T-mas) in one big celebration this year.  It’s looking like we might even have snow for the celebration, to help with the mood! It’s been great fun to see family, and watch how much fun the cousins are having playing together.

BOY!!!!

We had our ultrasound yesterday, and everything is looking very good and very healthy!  The little guy is average sized–including his head (YEA!!! Unlike his brother), with chubby cheeks & big feet. He is already head down. We did not get a good shot of his face, he is turned to the back so it was hard to see. But he was very active the entire time.

The lady who did the ultrasound was very nice, and did a great job pointing everything out to us. It was a plesent time. Will was not too impressed. He had gotten his flu shot the day before, so he was more worried that he or Mommy was going to get another "owie". Once he got a sucker, he was happy.  We were happy to see everything is developing well. The due date will stay at January 31st, so we have two months to figure out names we both like!

Will’s first girl friend is the daughter of some friends of ours in Marion, named Grace. We’ve had lots of fun with "Will & Grace" being friends.

What would Martha do

Last night I was making a new recipe that called for juice from ½ a lemon. Of course, I did not have a fresh lemon on hand, So I asked myself, “What would Martha do?”
