Fire Trucks

Tina's Blog March 31st, 2006

Yesterday, I drove up to Marion to visit a friend.  We drove by a yard with a number of old cars and trucks in it. There was also an old fire truck. Will saw it and the following conversation occurred:

 Fire truck! Ride fire truck!

“No, I don’t think you can ride that one.â€?

“I know! Put car seat in fire truck, and then ride it!

At least he knows his car seat is important, right?

Lotion

Tina's Blog March 28th, 2006

Last week I was cooking supper, when Will walked into the kitchen saying “Mommy, I all done!” I asked him “What are you all done with?” as I started to open the oven to take the meal out. “I all done putting lotion on baby Alex!”

Alex in lotion

I slammed the oven shut and ran into the living room, to see a baby looking as you can see in the picture. (You can tell he wasn’t very amused.) I tried to subtly take the picture, while telling Will he was NOT to put lotion on Alex. I should give him credit for at least keeping it out of Alex’s eyes.

Thoughts

Tina's Blog March 27th, 2006

James came home last night at 11:30. He figured up he spent 36 hours at the office from Friday to Sunday. 36 hours in three DAYS!  Anyway, they are moved in, and we’re praying today there won’t be too many issues.

So, anyone out there pick George Mason to go to the Final Four? Me either. With a bracket that is completly busted, I guess I’ll be cheering them on.

Next week, Indiana will go on Daylight Savings for the first time since the 70s. Yesterday in the paper we were given tips. Example: “The time changes at 2 AM. Most people change their clocks before they go to bed.” Sigh

Yesterday, I was telling Will what he could do when he was bigger. He had been crouching on the ground, then he stood up and said “Now I bigger!”

Another Weekend Update

Tina's Blog March 26th, 2006

As I’ve mentioned before, James’ office is in the process of moving to a new building this weekend. It’s been a crazy time for him as he’s putting up new cubes, moving all the equipment over & setting everything up.  Today he’s over setting up everyone’s computer.  (Just as an aside, when I taught, we had to pack up our computers at the end of the school year, and unpack them in August again. I quickly learned how to put my own computer together, or ask someone around me to help, there really wasn’t anyone easily avaliable to help me. I asked him why he couldn’t have the people at the office do it themselves, and he said it was easier to just do it for them.  Of course, I came in early to do set my computer up—I didn’t show up at my normal time on the first day of school and try to do on “company timeâ€?. In the business world, “company timeâ€? is important and equals money being earned.  It’s still annoying that he’s gone, doing something so simple—if I can do it, I think it’s pretty simple. I’m sure if he reads this, he’ll have many comments for why he’s doing it and why it’s really not that simple, I’m just having my say here!)

Yesterday we took a break from the move to go to a reception for one of his bosses that got married over Christmas break in Hawaii.  My friend/old college roommate Jen (who just moved here at the beginning of the month) agreed to watch the boys. This is the first time we’ve left Alex with a non-family member. Not because I’m worried about him—I’m worried about the person watching him!  He likes to be held. It’s one thing when it’s Grandma holding him—she loves to!  But someone who has 3 other kids running around, it’s harder to hold him.  The reception was from 7-10, in Broad Ripple. That’s a “cool or trendy area of Indy (or an area popular with lots of college students). Neither James or I have been before. It was nice, but tricky to find the restaurant and a parking place.

I told Jen I thought we’d leave about 8, so we’d be back around 8:30. After a fun time eating and talking with people, James came over and I asked him what time it was—and it was 9:30. WHOOPS!  And we didn’t even leave then! James wanted to finish his drink, and we had to say our good-byes, visit the restroom and walk back to the car. It was much closer to 10 by the time we were driving away.  Of course, we didn’t have Jen’s phone number in the cell phone so we couldn’t call her either.  Good thing she’s such a good sport, and didn’t mind. I know we owe her some baby sitting time though!   Once we got to her house, I need to feed Alex (I’d only given her one bottle, thinking we’d only be gone two hours) and Will decided he was hungry. (I tried to feed him supper before we left, but he wasn’t hungry. He ended up eating there…so not only were we late, but one son eats her out of house and home, and the other was fussy unless he was being held! We REALLY owe her some time!)  We talked for awhile, and didn’t leave until 11. Will feel asleep in the car for the second night in a row.  James put him in bed, and Will woke up enough to say “No night-night.â€? James went to get Rusty (Will’s stuffed dog that is needed for bed time), and Will was asleep by the time he got back.  Alex ate again when we got home, like I’d been starving him (silly boy). Then he slept 6 hours for me! Ahh, bliss!  Then, I got another hour and a half before he woke up again, and then ANOTHER hour and a half before Will woke up—Will slept in until 9:30!  Very unusual. But, after the craziness of the previous day, it was nice to have a relaxing morning. I felt bad about missing church… yet each boy is fighting a cold as well, so I’m not sure we would have gone even if we weren’t up that late.  A few weeks ago our Bible Study was talking about the Commandment to “Remember the Sabbath and keep it holyâ€?.  Our leader stressed how we are commanded to worship and relax for one day of the week (she didn’t want to get into the discussion of what day you call the Sabbath).  So I’m trying to make a point of having some worship time when we stay home. We had on our favorite Christian music this morning and a have a sermon on CD I’ve been wanting to listen to that is going to be my worship service today.

Other Things

Tina's Blog March 22nd, 2006

I’ve been trying to post some pictures, but have been having problems. For those who love the pictures, they’ll be up eventually–I hope.

I gave my mom a hard time last night for praying away our snow. She DID NOT want to miss school tomorrow or today. They’ve made up all their snow make up days, so if they miss another day, they have to make it up Good Friady, and she really wants to use that weekend to go visit my sister (and she doesn’t think they’ll drive down to St. Louis unless they can have all three days).  She said she was going to pray we didn’t get much. It worked, our totals were lower then expected, and they got very little!

Today I’ve gotten to watch a cold decend on Will. It started with the runny nose, then later in the morning his eyes were watering. By lunch time, his nose was stuffy.  I had him go down for an early nap and he was asleep within 15 minutes.  We’ll see how he’s doing when he wakes up. We’ve really been blessed with good health (only a few colds) this winter, I’m praying that will continue.

They did what?!?

Tina's Blog March 22nd, 2006

The Colts have gotten Adam Vinatieri as a kicker! I heard this on the news last night, and I thought “Cool” but it didn’t really hit me until I went to bed a few minutes later.  While this is not as big of a deal as the Cowboys taking T.O. (He’s the one who “disrespected them” by dancing across the helmet & star at center field a few years ago, and now he’s on the team!!!), it is still a big deal.  I had heard rumors that Vinatieri was looking at some teams, but didn’t realize the Colts were one of them. I guess we now know why the Edge was allowed to go to AZ!

Vindicated!

Tina's Blog March 21st, 2006

I got home from MOPS at 9:15, and James was finishing up some things, with the boys JUST falling asleep. (In the past, Alex was wide awake from 8-12 or 1 am. We’ve gotten it adjusted some, but 10 is the earliest he’s gone to sleep.)  James said he was going to bed as soon as he was done. We talked abit and he ended up going to bed early, about 9:45. I was torn. I knew I needed to go to bed, but wanted to watch my favorite TV show. (The Amazing Race …This season it’s on at 10 instead of 9, and that’s been hard!)  I decided to work and calm down from the evening out, while watching the show. About 10:15, Alex woke up for one more feeding. As I fed him, I was thinking how glad I was I didn’t go to bed. I would have JUST fallen asleep, and would have been so mad that he woke me up. So it’s a good thing I’m addicted to a silly TV show! (Or so I keep telling myself.)

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Tina's Blog March 21st, 2006

Our snow came, in a smaller amount then predicted. Well, at the last minute they lowered their predictions. We still got 5 inches, and the roads looked slushy and bad enough this morning, I decided to not go to Bible Study. The idea of lugging both kids out in the still rapidly falling snow, with a wind chill of about 12° just did not appeal to me. (Call me a whimp. But it was really the idea of lugging the car seat with Alex in it, the wind blowing the blanked off over his head while trying to carry the diaper bag, Will’s bag, and holding Will’s hand as we walked through the parking lot to get up to the door…it’s quite a walk.  How do people with more then 2 kids do it?!?)  We also had a rough night last night. Will woke us up at 3 with a “bangâ€? and a cry. He’d fallen out of bed (that’s only happened once before).  Then he was upset and didn’t want to go back to sleep, he wanted one of us to stay with him. Then Alex woke up and after eating had trouble falling back asleep. (That’s my own fault, I’d been bragging about how well he’s been going right back to sleep after I feed him at night. When will I learn?!?) Between the two, we were up for awhile, and then Alex woke up again two hours later—that’s pretty unusual for him.  So we were all pretty tired this morning. We stayed in the warm house and I did laundry, played trains with Will, and cleaned up the house.  Will played, Alex slept, and then graced us with some big smiles. One of these days I’ll manage to get a picture of them!

Will loved looking at the snow and wanted to go out and shovel it. I first told him we’d to it after his nap, but then realized I didn’t know the best way to do that with the baby. Didn’t want to do it while Alex was sleeping…didn’t want to bundle him up and put him in the car seat while he was awake—he’s not a fan of the car seat right now, and he would most likely scream the entire time.  I told Will after his nap MAYBE Daddy would take him out when he got home, but he might be tired. James walked in the door and Will said “Daddy! I shovel driveway! Put boots on, go out side?â€? James did take him out, and they shoveled the entire driveway while I was getting ready to go to MOPS. They came in the house with Will crying because he wanted to shovel more. I asked him, “Can we remember this for when you’re bigger, when you don’t want to do this?â€?  He said “No!â€?  So, we won’t remember this.

Happy First Day of Spring!

Tina's Blog March 20th, 2006

Yea! We made it through another winter…or did we? We have 6 inches of snow predicted to come tonight/tomorrow. So far my flowers have survived the cold nights, but not sure how the weight of the snow is going to treat them (I’m assuming not too well).  At least it’s is supposed to get up into the 40s the rest of the week, so it won’t stick around too long.

We celebrated James’ 30th birthday this weekend. Saturday morning we were getting ready for the celebration. I had put James’ gift on in a nice bag, on the counter.  I needed to run to the store, and left all the boys (and enjoyed the freedom to run into a store quickly without 2 kids!). When I got back, James told me he had been working on the computer, and Will came into the room saying “Daddy, here’s your game!”  (That is what was in the bag.)  He took it and tried to put it back in the bag without seeing it, but couldn’t find the bag. There were pieces of tissue paper on the floor, but no gift bag! He asked Will where it was, and Will told him “I threw it in the trash.”  What a helper, right?

My parents & Doug came down, and Heidi decided to come and visit from St. Louis this weekend and meet Alex for the first time as well. We had a fun time eating out for lunch, and then everyone coming to the house for the afternoon and evening.  We went for a walk and showed them the office building the company is moving into this week (it’s across the street from the other one), and enjoyed the sunshine. We had lots of cake, and fun playing games, as well as watching some of the basket ball that was on.  Heidi spent the night and joined us for church on Sunday.  We ran into Jen (my college roommate who moved here 3 weeks ago), and had her family over for lunch. After they left, we all got some short naps in, and then went to our Small Group meeting, where we had pizza! (Will was VERY excited.)  It was a fun weekend that went very fast.

As I mentioned, James is moving into a new office this Friday, so the new design of this site is on hold a bit. I’m sorry, I think it’s very ugly, and I hate looking at it. I am sorry you have to as well! We found some sites with free designs, but it’s taking some more “tweeking” then expected. Please be patient with us!
