And there is another boy in the house…

Tina's Blog May 10th, 2006

This is for my sister–an update on her "favorite" nephew.

Alex sitting Alex loves to sit in his "Entertainment Center"

Alex eating an elephant

He has started taking objects and putting them in his mouth (now Will is going to have to watch his toys).

Alex swinging

Alex gets to swing when Will wants to go on his swing. Alex usually looks like this–he doesn't smile when it happens, but he doesn't cry either, so he still "gets" to do it. The hand there is Will, getting ready to give him a push. When I push the two of them, Will tells me I should push Alex higher, like he likes to go. Always looking out for his brother!

We'll give Will a small space in this entry…

WIll drivingWill was given a "Flintstones Car" from some good friends. He LOVES that car. Something new for him to do as I am still trying to weed and get mulch in our front flower beds.

Freedom!!!

Tina's Blog May 8th, 2006

What a crazy week. I have been busy working on some project's for James' office. I had the final/big one due today. And I started it Friday. I am very happy to say that I'm done. We weren't the wisest to start potty training during this time, but the window of interest (on Will's part) was open. The next two weekends are crazier and then we're going on vacation. I honestly had hoped to wait until AFTER vacation. But, back to that “window of interest” being open…we knew to take advantage of it when we could. He was interested last summer but our attempts failed, and then he was ANTI-potty for a long time. So, as you read in James' post, we started. We were wise to start on a weekend this time. Last time, doing it solo almost drove me crazy. Last night, we tried to focus on the positives.

  • He now goes to the bathroom every 15 minutes (and we're pushing 20), not every five.

  • When he does have an accident, he “holds it” until we get to the bathroom, instead of just letting it all out at the time.

  • When we put him on the potty, he usually goes–instead of not going, and then peeing a minute after he gets off (what happened last time).

So, it's a start. We're still working on it. Today is my first day solo. Any prayers would be appreciated! Smile While we both like the idea of Will having the freedom from diapers, I don't like how we are forced to stay home and be near the potty right now. I wanted to have one of those potty training experiences where we just started, and he could do it in one day! (I can dream!)

Mom’s favorite fountain

James' Blog May 6th, 2006

(post start time: 10:30)

Manneken Pis in the nudeSo, now I know why someone created a fountain of a naked boy peeing.  It is a true to life representation of a 2 and half year old who is in the process of potty training.

We have decided that diapers are just TOO darn expensive.  We dropped $70 last month at Costco and that didn't include the $35 we had to spend on gas.

Today was they day we choose.  Nothing going on except that I need to clean out the back yard where the door was put in and Tina has a project for work due by Monday.  We have LOTS of time to potty train.

Since the wife is getting PAID my project is on hold while I spend the day sticking The Tort on the pot.

(mid post time: 10:45)  I am really not a slow typist and words generally come easily for me.  Its just that we have been on the toilet 6 times since I started, peed each sitting, but have also gone through 4 underwear (thank you for the bag full Tessa)

He is a fountain.  In one end and it immediately comes out the other.  We can pee on the potty and as soon as we get back into the living room (we have a small house) he has already wet his underwear.

The good news is that he is getting the hint that he needs to keep his underwear DRY.  He no longer gets treats when going pee on the potty but when is underwear is dry as well.

How that I started posting, he has done signifigantly better.  Tina has figured out when to tell me to stick him on the potty and he has been dry for the last 10 minutes.  He has gone three times.  His bladder must be the size of a pea.

(end post time: 11:00)

Happy May Day!

Tina's Blog May 1st, 2006

Happy Birthday to James' Grandpa Grover and to my friend Erin Langly.  Erin, the card is in the mail–really! Smile

Whoops, kind of not been updating here, haven’t I?  After our exciting weekend of birthday parties and time at my parents, we had several days of sleep issues. I know what caused them. We had several days of late naps and several more days of late bedtimes (which caused longer naps and later bedtimes again. Then we tried waking him up from a long nap, and he was even worse!). This led to much whininess on Will’s part. Alex was pretty laid back about it all—even with his ear infection (yes, that was discovered on Thursday, and we are now treating it).  That’s been about it. After having several weeks of warm, sunny days (a few days warm enough to pull out the shorts!) we are back to the normal weather for this time of year…or at least for what we should have had in early April. Usually in April we have cool, rainy days…the days were it is gloomy and it just rains on and off all day. This year our April rain mostly came from thunderstorms. The last few days have made up for that.  It’s been cruel to Will. He got used to playing outside everyday, and now we’re having to tell him he can’t because it’s raining. On top of it, he got a bike on Friday (from a great friend who’s son has out grown his) and he keeps wanting to ride his bike. We resorted to putting the car in the driveway and letting him ride in the garage yesterday.  He came in telling me he and Rusty (his stuffed dog) were going to school. Later he told me they were coming home from school and Rusty need to take a nap.

Today has been more of an exciting day. Today we put a hole in our wall.  A big hole. We are taking out the double windows in our dining room and putting in patio doors, so we won’t have to go through the garage to go outside. “We”…Um, I mean the guys we hired (“WE” as in James and I, are just watching).  So far, so good.  I’ll put up some pictures later.  Will has loved watching “The Guys” (despite the loud noise at times that scares him), and the cat has been freaking out. And we are all bundled up, since it is in the 60s outside, and there is a giant hole in our wall.
