Potty Training Update

James' Blog July 2nd, 2006

Today was the first Sunday in a year that we went to two service times at church.  We used to go to church at 9:45 and Sunday school @ 11:11 when we lived in Jonesboro.  However; since moving here, most of the larger churches do not have Sunday school or don't want you keeping your kids in the child care for two services.

Well, we have switched churches.  We now attend College Park Church and while they are a larger church, the do indeed have Sunday schools or Adult Bible Fellowships as they are called these days.

Today we went to the Newcomers class that they have at the beginning of the month and were able to ask questions of a deacon of the church as well as find out more about the church.  We then attended the service at 11.   This meant that The Tort and The Otter stayed in their respective classes for 2 services or 3 1/2 hours.

Since The Tort is currently in the potty training phase and is doing very well, we wanted to continue to keep him in the habit.  So, between services I made the mistake of going to see if he needed to go pee in the potty.  He did, and did, and then bawled when I told him that he had to stay another hour.  The nursery works so wisely let me know that next time we can let them know and they will take him to the potty.  I know/knew that but since he ran out of pull-ups he was in a diaper and I though that would be a hassle.  Probably less so then them having to deal with a bawling 3 year old for 10 minutes.

So, when we went to pick him up he was fine.  Couldn't even tell he had been "cryring," as he says.  The lady mention that he did fine and that about half way through the service he said "I need my daddy to come take me to go pee in the potty."

She said, "Your daddy is in the service and can't come, can I take you to pee in the potty?"

"No, I need my daddy to do it!"

She waited a little bit then asked again, "Can I take you to pee in the potty now?"

"No, I need my daddy to do it!"

Again, a few minutes pass and she asked again.  This time he let her.

That is certainly a milestone.  Not only has he been going to the potty in more public bathrooms he now has let someone other then mommy or daddy take him.

He is growing up SOOOO fast.

Challenge is 1/3 over

James' Blog July 2nd, 2006

One third of the 12 week challenge is over.  I have included an updated picture because there are some very subtle changes that have been made.  Mostly in the upper chest area.  You can see that my shoulders and chest are less saggy.  That is because I spend time doing what I hate, working my shoulders.  There is a burn that is very undesirable and I dread every time I do my upper body work out.

I have also lost 9 lbs of weight, 2 3/4 inches from my waist, reduced my BF% by 5%, lost 11 lbs of fat and gained 2.32 lbs of muscle. This is all able to be calculated from my chart below.

You may also notice that my Weight Goal and my Fat Loss Goal keep changing. That is because my Lean Body Mass keeps changing.  What this means is that if I had decided at the beginning that my goal was going to be to lose 30 lbs off of my weight I would have failed.  This is because as I lose fat, I add muscle.  This increases the lean body mass which in turn increases the lowest possible weight I can attain without making myself sick.   So, if you are in a weight loss program and you want to do it right, add a weight lifting program to your "diet" and know that your lean body mass will increase thus changing your shape and the number of resting calories your body burns.  This means you can truly burn more calories while you sleep without the "pills."

One other thing to note:  My Weight Goal keeps changing.  It keeps getting higher.  I have one friend/co-worker who was concerned that if I reached my Weight Goal of 156 lbs then I would be too scrawny.  Well, as you can see, my Weight Goal increases and this means that when I have finished my 12 week program I will have increase my LBM far enough that I will not be scrawny.
