When a baby gets hurt, there is a long pause (where he catches his breath) before he breaks out in a LOUD cry/scream (it's how you can tell a small thing from a BIG hurt).  Did you ever notice, the worse the pain, the longer the pause?  I'm sorry Alex, I didn't mean to let you fall over and bang your nose on the desk!  It was the longest pause I've heard him have yet…all I could do was say "I'm so sorry!" as I waiting for the impending scream.  But he's better now! He's happy now! Promise!
