Evening at the State Fair
We had a great time at the State Fair last night! It was a bit warmer then I expected—I’m glad we didn’t go when it was any warmer. I felt we timed our trip very well. We left about 4, so we got there at about 5, before the fair seemed to fill up with the "after work crowd". We had some food right away and managed to avoid the crowds we dealt with the year before. It seems when ever you talk about a fair, people want to know what you eat, so I will share (and you can see how bad we blew our diet). James had a Gyro, and I had a corn dog, and we shared some fries with Will. Will had his favorite—PB & J and Alex dined on Peaches and Apples with Prunes. We all were satisfied.
Then we started out to see the animals. (Ironically, most of the food stands are right by all the places that house the animals.) We saw the World’s Largest Boar as well as a huge sow and her piglets. While Will & James were looking at other animals, I went over to get the "Signature Treat of the State Fair": Fried Strawberries covered in chocolate & whipped cream. (They had a big contest to decide the winner…I wanted to try it, but the final verdict is "Not worth the cost".) We saw lots of cows in the cow barn (we were hunting for a co-worker of James’ who took the week off to help her family show cows…but we didn’t see her). Will’s favorite thing was the tractors that pulled carts around the circular fair grounds. Each time Will saw one, he’s say “There’s a tractor!” (Never mind that we probably saw the same 8-10 ones over and over and over.)
By the time we left the cow barn, Will wanted to see more tractors. It cost 50 cents to ride one time around so Will and James got on one for a ride—Will was THRILLED. While he did that I got my State Fair Favorite, the Lamb Kabob. Alex and I sat in the shade and watched the “Daily Parade”. I ate my kabob and Alex ate grass. Or at least tried to. Then James & Will got back from their ride and we walked over to the interactive exhibits. One of the buildings is done by FFA and has all kinds of great kids stuff Will had fun playing with. After that we had the required Funnel Cake & Lemon Shake-Up, and then it was time to head for home.
