What Would You Do?
Tina's Blog February 2nd, 2007James presented me with a question, and I'd like your thoughts on it. We have money to do one big home improvement project this year. Which one should it be?
1. Put in a deck or patio
PROS:
- We put in the french doors last year, it'd be nice to have normal steps out (not a cinder block).
- The boys could play on a large, flat hard surface outside that is not the driveway (we live on a busy street and Alex will be at the running age by summer)
- We could leave our patio furniture out all the time, instead of leaving it leaning up against the house under the eves and pulling it out when we want to use it (Wow, do we sound classy or what?)
CONS: It can only be used 6-9 months of the year
2. Replace the carpet in the dining room
PROS: I can sweep up the messes under the table instead of having to daily (or every other day) lug out the vacuum cleaner (which scares the boys) & no more carpet stains. (It is really stained.)
CONS: We'd have to do the kitchen and bathroom at the same time to make the floors match/flow. There's nothing THAT bad with the floor in those rooms (I don't like it, but I can live with it).
3. Replace the vanity/counter/sink in the bathroom.
PRO: It needs to be done sometime, the cabinets are really worn out. (And it's that or strip and refinsh them. Not sure I'm prepared to do that much work on them.)
CON: We only have one bathroom, so anything we do in there that puts it out of comission is not a good thing right now. And it's just not something that seems vital right now. And once we change those, I'm going to be more frustrated with the kitchen cabinets.
So, feel free to leave a comment over what you think you'd do. I'm curious what other people think.
